Membership Renewal for 2010-11 Members

ACM SZABIST Student Chapter Recruitment 2011

We opened our registrations as per convention according to SSC’s instructions from 6th of September 2011 till Society Fair on 9th of September 2011. A total of 70+ applicants signed up of ACM Membership which was very encouraging as compared to last year. Something that needs special mention here is we had applications from BBA & MBA is large numbers. All the applicants will be screened before they are finally inducted into ACM. Interviews are expected to be in third week of September. We look forward to induction of young blood in ACM.

A session was conducted on 11th August 2011 prior to recruitment in collaboration with IEEE for freshmen to inform them about both the societies and help them decide which are the ones to go for. It was very well received by freshies. Special mention for Sir Kumail Raza, Sir Adeel Ahmed & Sir Kamran Wali who spared a part of their class’ time for induction during a tight schedule of Ramadan.

Congratulations to the new EB

I congratulate the new EB for clearing a two round interview process taken by Faculty Advisor Adeel Ahmed and Governing Body of ACM SZABIST Chapter supervised by SZABIST Student Council to ensure transparency (Special Thanks to Hamza Faruqi, Vice President SSC).

The kind of response we got was overwhelming and it got us into a tough position to decide who was the best for respective position. We’ve tried our level best to selected the best possible Head of Departments and their teams.

Initially we had plans just to shortlist HoDs but we had so many potential candidates that we were forced to make respective teams. Now all of us together need to work for ACM, it’s not important what you are whether President, HoD or a team member, what’s important is ACM SZABIST Chapter and we all need to take it to the new heights. Congratulations once again to new HoDs and team members.

ACM SZABIST Governing Body 2011-2012 Election Results

It was a very though fight for the posts of Vice President and General Secretary. Voting was extended to 5:45 pm and 37 ACM SZABIST members casted their votes. Vote counting was done by Sir Naveed Dilber and ACM SZABIST sponsor, Sir Adeel Ahmed. Following were the results:

President: Sarmad Saleem selected unopposed.

Vice President: Mizbah Aziz won with 19 votes and just one vote behind was Adnan Jawed with 18 votes. Sadaan Mustafa did not receive any votes, but got a lot praise from everyone.

General Secretary: S. M. Zaid Shakil won with 13 votes, just 2 votes behind was Manish Kumar with 11 votes. Masuma Hassan got 8 votes and M. Ahsan got 5 votes.

We congratulate the new governing body, Sarmad, Mizbah and Zaid, for winning the elections. Along with that, we wish you all the best of luck for the future. Moreover, we hope you serve the society at your best, fulfill the aims and make everyone proud.

Spring’11 Events by ACM SZABIST

In this spring 2011, ACM SZABIST had organized 7 events which were to enhance the knowledge, making students involved and above all creating awareness regarding computer science and its fields. These events included:

Annual Computing Rendezvous 2011: A get-together for Alumni, Students and Faculty of Computer Science at Salt and Pepper Village on 16th January 2011.

Chess Master: Held under Extravaganza 2011, all the best of intellects came under one roof to battle against each other to become Chess Master on 28th and 29th February 2011.

Time the coder: Held under Extravaganza 2011, this competition was for all the coders who think they could code faster than anyone else. This took place on 2nd March 2011.

SAP ERP Seminar: Awareness regarding this very interesting concept of ERP was given and also SAP was introduced in this seminar on 2nd April 2011.

iPhone App-Dev Workshop, Hands-on xCode: It was about iPhone Application Development for beginners. This workshop covered basic Objective C and hands-on xCode. This amazing workshop was conducted on 12th April 2011

Code-Fest 2011: It was an exhibition showcasing the software projects of the 6^thSemester BS Computing students. This amazing exhibition happened on 16th April 2011.

Information Security in Corporate World by Raheem Kazani: This seminar was about the need for creating awareness regarding information security and what we can do about it. It took place on 16th April 2011.

This semester, ACM SZABIST has worked extra hard to give out the best of the best events to everyone. Seven successful events in just four months was not easy but due to everyones’ encouragement, support from our sponsor (Sir Adeel Ahmed) and our team work, this all became possible. We hope to work like this in future as well and arrange events that will benefit all. Along with that, we will arrange events that will bring us closer to our ultimate aim which is to promote and advance computing as a science and profession.

The time has finally come where the the existing body bid adieu ACM SZABIST and welcome the new body. However, to ensure that posts are giving to the right people elections and selections are important.

All the ACM members can apply for the following posts.

The governing body will be selected by elections.

President
Vice President
General Secretary

For the executive body posts, selection will take place. This selection will take place after the elections. If you are interested in any of the executive body posts then do let us know and we will forward your name for the post.
